Robert Wayne Rogers

-

Robert W. Rogers, 91, passed away peacefully in Winter Park, FL on Feb. 19, 2024. Robert was born in Fairfax, SC on May 7, 1932, to Lottie Singletary Rogers and Stephen C. Rogers. Robert’s mother, Lottie, passed away when Robert was an infant. The only mother he ever knew was Sara Cone Rogers who raised him as her own. Robert grew up in the Charleston, SC area, the sixth of eight siblings. After serving in the Army during the Korean War from 19521954, he attended The Citadel and graduated in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. His career started in New Jersey, but he soon moved to Cape Canaveral to work for Lockheed. Eventually Robert was hired by Hewlett Packard. After a long and successful career at HP he retired in 1982 as the general manager of the mid-west region. He loved his work at HP and it took him all over the USA and the world.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Linda Baldocchi (Rick) of Orlando FL and Lesley Rogers of Winter Park FL, his grandchildren, Paige Castro (Jose), Claire Barton (James) and Leah Baldocchi, his former wife, Joyce A. Rogers and several nieces and nephews who he cherished.

Robert is preceded in death by his siblings, Marjory Conners, Stephen C. Rogers Jr., Maryann Johnson, Julius D. Rogers, Joseph P. Rogers, George H. Rogers and Virgil M. Rogers and his great-granddaughter, Lila Catherine Barton.

Robert never met a stranger and was always up for a laugh, a rare steak and a glass of wine with friends. He loved good conversation and never shied away from any topic. He was a master at giving instructions. If you ever see one of his family members out on the roads driving aimlessly it’s because he’s not right beside them in the passenger seat instructing them on what roads to take and where to turn. Robert was generous in spirit and smart as a whip. He will be missed greatly.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Thursday April 11,2024 at First United Methodist Church Winter Park. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to First United Methodist Church Winter Park.
