The local art scene is still alive, though it may look different because of the pandemic.
Chico Theater Company
Chico Theater Company will present “The Diaries of Adam and Eve” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday- Saturday, Oct. 1-17.
“This hilarious adaptation of the Mark Twain story is a non-stop, laugh aminute exploration of the relationship between men and women. Lonely and bored, Adam is sent Eve, an inquisitive woman with a flair for giving Earth’s creatures their proper names. And though inarticulate Adam would rather playwith rocks than talk to Eve, he eventually discovers a newfound appreciation for her as they weather expulsion from Eden and become newparents,” a press release said.
Marc Edson is directing the play, which stars Holly Quick, Alex Limper and Jeff Dickenson.
Edson said he was “going crazy by not being able to do anything creative.”
Thus, this drive-in style performance was born.
Reservations are required, as space is limited.
The production will be performed outside in the theater’s back parking area. Drivers need to park in designated spots facing the stage. The audio will be live and broadcast on a designatedFMbandsopatrons can hear it in their cars.
The 1-hour comedy is appropriate for all ages. The show is $20 per carload, or $10 for individuals who want to set out a chair to sit in.
Museum of Northern California Art
The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) will host a virtual art performance byRebecca Shelly from 10 a.m.-noon on Oct. 10, 17, and 24. Shelly will create a self-portrait using fabric, yarn, thread and possibly paint. She will use a treadle sewing machine table that she rebuilt herself. She currently teaches drawing at Chico State and Butte College.
Monca will also host Mindfulness Meditation with Ramekon from10:3011 a.m. on Oct. 14 on Facebook. The event designed for participants of all levels. There will be a brief introduction, followed by the history and benefits of mindfulness, principles and techniques, culminating in a 20-minutemeditation session.
“Mindfulness is a state of being present, utilizing your breath to calm the mind. Practicing mediation can lead to increased focus, creativity, enhance your memory, compassion, and productivity—along with reduced anxiety, stress, pain, depression, and emotional balance,” a press release said.
Arwisters has been practicing Vipassanameditation for 14 years. He was a curator of fine art photography at the San Francisco International Airport Museum until he retired in 2016. He is currently the airport meditation instructor.
Those unable to attend the live session can view it later.
Monca will also host a fundraiser, Zoom Watercolor Paint Night, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 22. Local artist ChristineMac Shane will lead the event. Participants are invited to paint pumpkins. The cost is $20.

Orland Art Center
The Orland Art Center’s latest exhibit, “Autumn Textures,” features artists Gyda Buelna, Sue Shuey, and Linda Vanella.
“Kaleidoscopes of color, intricate patterns and striking scenes of natural beauty abound in this exhibit,” a press release said.
Buelna’s art is in the form of quilts, Shuey’s in the form of photographs and Vanella’s in the form of baskets and wall hangings. The artist reception will take place from 3-7 p.m. on Oct. 2. Music will be performed by Michael Reyna. Hand sanitizer will be provided. The gallery is open 1- 6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. The show will take place Oct. 2-Nov. 21.
