OROVILLE BRIGHT WITH CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
OROVILLE » With indoor activities curbed this season a driving tour to check out the merry and bright Christmas lights and decorations adorning many homes is the ticket to get into the holiday spirit.
At the King- Romaguera home, 265 Lodgeview Drive, the Christmas spirit is in full swing. Everything is aglow from the curb to the house. There are 100,000 lights, 20 inflatable decorations and, projected onto large screen is “A Christmas Story” playing in a continuous loop through the evenings.
“We’ve been doing this a couple of years now and we add to it each year, but this year we went all out. This year has been kind of a blow out for the kids but this is fun and puts them in a good mood,” said Jenae King-Romaguera.
Setting up the Christmas wonderland was a family affair this year. Rob Romaguera, Jenae and their three children Elenore, Katera and Genevieve were joined this year by Janae’s sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Kragen Faulkner and their four children Reagan, Rylie, Knixon and Knox, who are temporarily living with the family as they search for a new home in Oroville, who lent some much-needed hands to this year’s decorating extravaganza.
While the lights sparkle and decorations amaze, perhaps the best part of this family’s decorations are the elves — Rylie Faulkner, Reagan Faulkner, Katera King- Romaguera and Genevieve King-Romaguera — who once the sun goes down and the lights go on head outside in full elf regalia to sing and dance up and down “candy cane lane,” greet visitors with a “Merry Christmas” and offer up a basket of individually wrapped candy canes with a polite, “Would you like one?”
Between the lights, decorations, movie, live entertainment and treats, 265 Lodgeview Drive is a fullblown holiday production deserving of a long visit.
In a supporting role are the three charmingly decorated homes east of the King- Romaguera’s. Directly next door Johnny, Racquel and Sara Nolind have created a forest of 22 brightly lit white Christmas trees. The whole scene is reminiscent of Narnia’s Woodhill Forest but, with holiday cheer not an evil witch.
Throughout town are many homes aglow with sparkling lights showing that not even a pandemic can dampen the Christmas spirit.
Other homes nominated for the tour of lights in the greater Oroville area include:
2880 Foothill Boulevard — The home on Foothill Avenue has a wide, expansive yard fully populated by inflatables including Santa, Minnie Mouse and Buddy the Elf and well as other brightly lit delightful decorations.
10 Orangewood Way — On Orangewood Way every inch of yard and house offers some charming cheer from the giant red fox out front to the happy smiling snowman by the front window to the wreath above the garage. Don’t miss the side yards!
1350 Tehama Ave. — The enormous reindeer standing in the front yard is kept company by The Grinch and Santa sits in his sleigh atop the brightly colored roof.
1260 Floral Ave. — It’s impossible to miss this house with its life-size Santa Claus sitting beneath a spectacular tunneling arch of lights while nearby are a shivering snowman, nutcracker, chipmunk and many other Christmas wonderland characters.
