Holiday events planned in Butte, Glenn counties

Looking for a little joy can be a tough hunt these days, but here are a number of options for families, kids and adults for the holiday season in Butte and Glenn counties.

Chico

DEC. 10-22 » Neighborho­od Church, 2801 Notre Dame Blvd., Chico will be hosting a Christmas light show every night from 6 to 9 p.m. for drive-up viewing. The light show is every 30 minutes on the half-hour, rain or shine.

Chico Performanc­es from Chico State will host several musical events.

DEC. 18 AND 20 » Manual Cinema’s Christmas Carol will be performed at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 and 1 p.m. Dec. 20. Both shows will be performed live in Manual Cinema’s Chicago studio and live streamed to our Chico Performanc­es audience at home. Tickets are $15

DEC. 19 » Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy Present: A Celtic Family Christmas at Home in a streaming concert event scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets are $15.

ALL DECEMBER » Enloe Medical Center has decorated its adjacent park with lights for the holidays. The park is located on the west side of the hospital and can be accessed via West Fifth or West Sixth avenues. The lights will be on from 5 to 7 a.m., and from 5 to 9:30 p.m. The park also has a mailbox for letters to Santa.

JAN. 9 » Local Boy Scout Troop 2 will be collecting and recycling Christmas trees in Chico for fish habitat. Trees should be by the curbside by 8 a.m. to be picked up by 3 p.m. Flocked trees, wreaths or ornaments cannot be taken. Consider donating $10 to $35. To register for the pick up visit www.troop2chic­o.com to pay with PayPal credit card option by Jan. 4. Call 5147108 with pick up informatio­n and send donations to Troop 2 Chico, PO Box 7025 Chico 95927 by Jan. 4, and include the location of the tree as well. Donations will be used for Scouting programs.

Oroville

Downtown Oroville is working to set up decorated Christmas trees around the historic district so shoppers and visitors may have festive background­s for holiday selfies.

ON NOW » the Lights of Hope Christmas village, 3556 Oro Bangor Highway, is open to the public for an admission fee to help hosting Father’s House church Gift of Hope program for underprivi­leged children. The village is open to the public until Jan. 3, but will be closed for a private event Dec. 1517. At that time more than 900 area youths and their families will be visiting for free. The venue includes ice skating, sledding, booths and firepits for enjoying the nights. The quartermil­e Christmas Light Walk is open after 5 p.m. and free. The sledding hill tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. The ice skating rink admission, which includes skate rentals, is $14 in advance, $16 at the door. Hours are 3 to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 9 p.m. Sundays.

Paradise

DEC. 18 AND 19 » the Paradise Recreation and Park District will be hosting a drive-in movie in the back parking lot of St. Thomas Moore Church, 767 Elliott Road. The movies will start at 6 p.m., with tickets $20 per vehicle. Popcorn, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase. The movies will be family friendly, with a holiday theme. The Terry Ashe Recreation Center grounds, 6626 Skyway, is ready for Christmas, with several decorated and lit trees and other decoration­s around the facility including projection lights and holiday inflatable­s. The recreation district is not hosting the ice rink this year.

Glenn County

Dec. 16-20: In Glenn County, the annual Avenue of Lights will be back. A festive route through the Glenn County Fairground­s, 221 E. Yolo St., Orland is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 16-20.
