CORNING » Officers with the Corning Police Department were led on a lengthy chase Saturday night before arresting the suspect, who was reportedly barking and bit a police dog.

Jorge Bucioperez, 39, of Corning was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, evading officers and possession of methamphetamine found in his vehicle.

An officer driving near Houghton Avenue and Butte Street saw a minivan driving about 10 mph through a stop sign with its high beams on and tried to stop the vehicle around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a press release issued Sunday by the Corning Police Department.

When the van didn’t stop, the officer chased it through town at speeds up to 75 mph, the release said. Eventually, the minivan crashed through a residential gate at the 22200 block of O Avenue in Corning.

Before the vehicle came to a complete stop, Bucioperez jumped out and ran through the backyard of the residence, the release said.

Police K- 9 Blaze was sicked on Bucioperez, who struggled against the dog, including biting him. According to the release, Bucioperez began barking and biting at officers as they attempted to arrest him.

Bucioperez was detained. After his injuries were cleared at a local hospital, he was taken to the Tehama County Jail with his bail set at $70,000.

The release said Bucioperez also was arrested following a Nov. 21 police chase with Corning police officers.
