WILLOWS » A small earthquake shook residents of Glenn County early Sunday morning. The magnitude 3.8 earthquake occurred at 6:44 a.m. and was centered about 15 miles east of Willows, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A second shake was felt shortly thereafter at 6:59 a.m. less than a mile north.

The quake was felt in several nearby cities including Colusa to the south, Biggs and Gridley to the East and reached as far north as Orland, Chico and even a slight rumble in Corning.

The shake turned out to be minimal as local businesses were not affected Sunday and no damages has been reported to either Glenn County Sheriff or the Orland Fire Department as of Sunday morning.

However some residents in Orland did feel the shake. Abel Hernandez, the former kicking coach for the Butte College football team, and his wife Mona Hernandez are residents of Orland. Abel said he felt the house shake and woke Mona up to check on the trees in the front yard, as it had felt like one had

fallen over.

After seeing no trees had fallen, Abel realized he just experienced a rarity in the area in the earthquake.

At the Walmart Supercenter in Orland store employees did not have any damages or fallen items from shelves Sunday morning, as well at Sav Mor in Orland.

Assistant store manager at Sav Mor in Orland Quinn Hall said he arrived at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and did not feel the shake.

“Fortunately but unfortunately I did not feel it here,” Hall said. “It would have been cool to be apart of something like that though.”

The Starbucks on Humboldt Avenue in Willows also did not feel the shake and has not seen any damage to the interior, though the exterior is still yet to be inspected according to store supervisors.
