Recycling collection planned for Christmas trees

One of the first chores for the new year may be undecorati­ng the Christmas tree, and there are a few ways to get rid of the bare tree.

In Chico, Boy Scout Troop 2 will be collecting and recycling Christmas trees for fish habitat. Registrati­on is being taken for pick up.

Trees should be by the curbside by 8 a.m. Jan. 9 to be picked up by 3 p.m. Flocked trees, wreaths or ornaments cannot be taken. Consider donating $10 to $35.

To register for the pick up visit www.troop2chic­o. com to pay with PayPal by Jan. 4.

Call 530- 514-7108 with pick up address, and send donations to Troop 2 Chico, PO Box 7025 Chico 95927 by Jan. 4. Include the location of the tree as well.

Donations will be used for Scouting programs.

Also in Chico, Esplanade Furniture will be col lecting Styrofoam block and packaging for recycling. Drop off foam at 1750 The Esplanade.

Make sure the foam is clean and dry. The business suggests a phone call first to make sure help is available, 879-2352.

Throughout But te County, Recology Butte County and Waste Management will be picking up trees at the same time they do regular collection. Cut trees into 3-foot sections or smaller and leave next to your yard waste containers on the regular collection day. All ornaments, tinsel and lights must be removed.

In Oroville and Thermalito, trees can also be dropped off at 8 a. m. to 4 p. m. Monday through Friday at 2720 S. Fifth Ave. in Oroville or 8: 30 a. m. to 4 p. m. Saturday. Informatio­n is available by calling Recology, 5335868.

In Gridley and Biggs, Waste Management will be collecting trees on the regular collection day. Trees need to be cut up and left by the yard waste bins. Biggs residents can drop off the trees at the Biggs/ Butte County Fire station, 434 B St. until Jan. 9. For informatio­n, call 846- 0810.
