MAGA Stew = a bad meal
I’ve decided to make a stew with the three main ingredients being ignorance, delusion, and gullibility.
Let’s take a closer look at these: ignorance — lack of knowledge or information, such as believing the COVID-19 pandemic is a hoax, or having to wear a mask is an infringement on freedom; delusional — characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument, as in believing there was massive election fraud despite over 50 lawsuits being rejected by courts for lack of any concrete evidence, the judges being both Democrat and Republican; gullibility — easily persuaded to believe something is true or real, like donating to Trump’s Election Defense Fund without reading the small print, which allows him to determine its expenditure, and so far he has pocketed the majority of over $200 million in donations.
Next, take a big pot, mix these ingredients together, the amounts varying according to one’s distaste, then stir in a portion of the 21.1 % of adult Americans who are illiterate but can still carry signs and wear hats. To finish, sprinkle with illusion — a thing that is or is likely to be wrongly perceived or interpreted by the senses, as in believing Donald Trump cares about the lives of most Americans.
And there you have it, Trump’s base in a big ‘ol
MAGA stew. Serve with a side of alternative facts garnished with arrogance, and wash it down with a glass of sour grapes.
