REVA SELLERS

-

Reva Sellers, a longtime Chico resident, passed away on December 29, 2020. Born in Lapointe, Utah, on August 30, 1928, to Leola and David Wells Jacobson, she moved with her family to Orland in 1937, where she attended Plaza Elementary School and graduated from Orland High School in 1947. She then moved to Chico, where she met her husband, Bob, raised her family, and resided until her death. Reva is survived by her children Jan Burnham (Russ), Brad Sellers, and Tracy Herfindahl (Jon), daughter-in-law Dolores Sellers, 8 grandchildren Jason Sellers (Darcie), Brennan Sellers, Blake Burnham (Lindsey), Trenton Burnham (Christina), Trevor Sellers (Mahina), Sam Sellers (Brittani), Peter Sellers, and Shannon Herfindahl (Devin), and 9 great grandchildren, Elise, Anya, Kayden, Madelyn, Audrey, Finnley, Ka’imiloa, Hokule’a, and Orion, as well as her brothers Larry, Mack, and Gary Jacobson, sister Annette Anderson and their families.

She is predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob), her oldest son Clif, her parents, and siblings Marie, Junior, and John Jacobson.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of capacities over the years. She especially enjoyed the time she and her husband worked at the Bishop’s Storehouse fulfilling a 2-year mission.

She is probably best remembered in the community as ‘Mrs. Sellers’ operating Sellers Day Care providing a loving home environment for over 30 years. She still received Christmas cards from many of her daycare parents and children.

She loved to garden, especially flowers, leaving the vegetables and berry bushes to her husband’s care. She had quite the iris garden at one point, carefully tending and knowing the name of each variety. She loved to do needlepoint work and stitched a specific pattern honoring home and family for each of her siblings, children, and grandchildren. She painted ceramics and made a large Santa for each of her children, piggy banks, Christmas ornaments, baseball figurines, etc. She loved to read, including scriptures each day, liked working jigsaw puzzles, and playing various board and card games.

After her retirement, she enjoyed travelling to Europe with husband and Tracy, a trip to New York City with Tracy, to Washington DC and plantation homes in the south with Jan, to New England, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico with other family members. For many years, she and her husband drove their travel van throughout the United States on extended trips, visiting relatives and stopping at various national parks and other points of interest.

Reva sold her family home of 58 years in 2012, moving first to The Terraces and then to The Courtyard at Little Chico Creek as her need for assistance increased. She had resided at The Courtyard for the past 5 years where she enjoyed the friendship of many of the residents, participated in many activities, and was noted for her prowess at games, especially gin rummy and Mexican Train dominoes.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at The Courtyard for the loving care she received over the years. She regarded each staff not only as her caretaker, but also as her friend. A private graveside service will be held at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Newton Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the LDS Missionary Fund at https://donate.churchofjesuschrist.org/donations/church/missionary-fund.html or the Habitat for Humanity of Butte County, PO
