Two arrested after storage units burglarized
The Paradise Police Department announced on Wednesday that it had arrested two men in connection with a burglary on Skyway.
According to police, at about 1:21 p.m. Feb. 17, officers went to American Self Storage located in the 9100 block of the Skyway for a burglary report to a storage unit.
Police allege that video surveillance identified Oroville resident Allen Petty, 48, as the suspect. It’s alleged
that Petty cut the victim’s lock off the storage unit and replaced it with his own lock. Police say that allowed Petty to return several more times and take more property from the victim.
Tuesday afternoon at about 1:10 p.m., police say they received another report of a storage unit burglary. Police claim video surveillance shows Petty returning to the facility and cutting the lock on a second storage unit in order to steal items before fleeing the scene.
Officers say that Petty allegedly returned to the storage unit at 3:42 p.m. It was then that they detained Petty and three other subjects. One of them was David Neeley, 40, of Berry Creek who along with Petty were arrested on scene. Neeley was arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools and violating his post release custody supervision.
Nearly was arrested on suspicion of possession of a billy club, four counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary.
Both men were booked into the Butte County Jail. Paradise police also said the other two subjects that were at the scene were asked to come to the location to help Petty move items out of a friend’s storage unit and were released at the scene.
