Even Churchill was a very flawed man

-

A letter writer recently cited Winston Churchill as an authoritative source regarding social and political matters, specifically his views on the evils of socialism. So let’s re- examine some of Churchill’s views.

He said that he “hated people with slit eyes and pigtails. I don’t like the look of them or the smell of them.” He said that he “did not really think that black people were as capable or as efficient as white people.” He said, “I hate Indians. They are a beastly people with a beastly religion.” He was an unapologetic supporter of British colonialism, and advocated for further conquests, insisting that “Aryan stock is bound to triumph.” He rationalized genocide against native Americans, saying “I do not admit that a wrong has been done to those people by the fact that a stronger race, a higher-grade race… has come in and taken their place.”

It’s indisputable that

Churchill’s leadership was instrumental in the Allies’ triumph over Nazi Germany. But it’s also undeniable that he was a very flawed man, and that his views on social matters were regressive and racist. His anti-socialist stance cost him re-election in 1945.

If you truly detest any manner of socialism, then I encourage you to live your truth and to reject government stimulus checks, Social Security, Medicare, public schools, public libraries, public parks, public highways, police, and firefighters.
