School board needs a complete overhaul

-

The E-R editorial board is sadly mistaken.

The students of Chico Unified School District are not doing well under the “hybrid” AM/PM model they are presently under with two hours of teacher contact time and the rest “distance learning.” E-R says “only a few weeks left in the school year” actually it would have been 18 weeks if the board had voted on full time in January or even beginning of February. Many districts like Roseville and Durham have recently gone back to full time learning without any problems. But the CUSD decided it was too much “shuffling” of kids and too “inconvenient” to give the students of Chico what they need.

The board overlooks the massive learning loss, mental health, suicide, depression, low motivation and failing grades that our children have suffered. The board originally voted to move to full time when the county was in the Orange Tier, but reneged when attained. Other districts and private schools did go full time then without problems. The board has been deaf to the cries of parents who see this as a lost year and a half for their children.

A recall of Kaiser, Robinson, Lando and Dalby is much needed for their uncaring malfeasance. The parent group sponsoring the recall has tried all means available and is serious. Schools might not open full time in the fall — another excuse will be found! There have been too many promises broken. The school board needs a complete overhaul and it will get it soon.
