In support of climate action plan

-

I walk in Bidwell Park every week and I often observe how the park has such a wonderful assortment of trees and plants. Whenever I go down to visit Big Chico Creek it is so soothing and enriching to watch the water flow and ripple through and observe all the surrounding earthen elements. I remember once when I was attending Butte College and decided to visit Bear Cave for a geology class assignment. I had never seen such strange rock formations and the water flowing through it was so clear and beautiful. These are some examples of the cherished local places that we will lose to climate change. Chico has always been a healthy place to grow up, get a university education, start a small business, or take nature hikes. However, these special qualities and our lives are threatened because Chico will experience more extreme drought, wildfires, extreme heat, and other dangerous disasters.

This is why we must support the new Chico Climate Action plan that is being developed. This plan will provide Chico with cleaner energy sources, such as wind and solar, add safer bike paths and better bike facilities, and set up stations for using electric cars. The plan also calls for composting organic waste and planting more trees in Chico, which will help clean the air from pollution and provide more shade. All these measures will help Chico to become more environmentally sustainable and help stop climate change.
