Letter was insulting to cardboard cutouts

- — David White, Oroville

I found an April 6 letter by Tom Neill comparing Joe Biden to the cardboard cutouts which have been replacing live fans at sporting events for the last year, extremely insulting.

To the cutouts.

I can’t imagine what any cardboard cutout could have possibly done to Mr. Neill which would cause him to denigrate and disparage them to such a degree. I think most of us would agree that cardboard cutouts have far more intelligence, integrity, competence and definitely more personality than Joe Biden. Unlike Joe Biden, cardboard cutouts have uses. I remember the cardboard cutouts of movie stars which would adorn the lobbies of theaters. Circuses and fairs used cutouts to provide directions, indicate entrances, exits and help guide us to essential facilities such as food concessions and rest rooms. And of course, how many of us posed with cutouts of various celebrities for those entertaining photographs at carnivals and fun houses.

While Joe Biden spent the last year being grim and dour, the cardboard cutouts at baseball and football games were always smiling and happy. So, this is their reward? To be scorned, degraded, belittled and maligned by being described as similar to Joe Biden? Such callousness and brutality is shameful indeed.

So, Mr. Neill, I think it is time for you to apologize to cardboard cutouts everywhere, for this disgusting attempt to associate them with the likes of Joe Biden.
