Oroville Mercury-Register

Councilor wasting our time and money

-

Councilor David Pittman did not disappoint at the 08/18/2021 Oroville City Council Meeting. Grandstanding, self-adulation and disregard for taxpayers dollars was on full display.

Pittman requested a question be placed on the 2022 ballot seeking the public’s opinion on whether or not to job out city services. It refers to the Cal Fire contract with the City of Oroville. He has led the charge along with a small group of Oroville residents in opposition to the plan. He has instigated numerous delays and was successful in spending taxpayer dollars on a consultant. He continually talks about the intent of Measure U while ignoring the fact it is a general tax.

Pittman claims the majority of Oroville residents agree with him, yet when a letter was read from a resident in support of the majority view of the council he called the letter outrageous.

Why would a city council member want a question put on the 2022 ballot when the decision on the question has already been made? Could it be his inability to accept decisions of the voting majority? Is he impotent when it comes to making hard decisions? Maybe. My guess would be Pittman wants it for an election issue in 2022.

It was refreshing to hear thoughtful commentary from Councilors Krysi Riggs, Scott Thomson and Eric Smith. Thank you Mayor Chuck Reynolds and those of you on this council that are moving Oroville towards a vibrant and well-protected city.
