PV beats Chico in field hockey

A hard-fought stalemate between the Chico High and Pleasant Valley field hockey teams ended with a 1-0 victory for the Vikings on Tuesday night at Panther Stadium.

Anna Isherwood scored the lone goal of the match on a penalty corner that was awarded to PV in the third quarter. Isherwood completed the stroke by sending the ball to the left side of the net.

Both teams were evenly matched as they both recorded four penalty corners for the game.

Chico’s offense was led by Fiona Nielsen and Melia Bainbridge, with a strong effort from sophomore JoJo Bishop. Chico’s defense was led by Sophia Pennisi, Camille Irons, Mia James and Sophia Taylor.

Ruby Keesey and Natalie Larrance-Potkin split time as goalkeeper­s for the Panthers.

For PV, Savannah Cresswell had three saves in the cage.

Ellie Gallaty and Emma Devine led the Vikings’ defense while Brooklyn Longueira, Isherwood and Kendall Greytok kept up the offensive pressure. Sophomores Rilyn Harris and Abby O’Donoghue were also credited for strong play.

“Every player on both teams came to play, it was a very exciting game,” Vikings head coach Bill Flory added.

Chico (1-1) will travel to Leigh High for a tournament this weekend, then travel to Davis High School on Tuesday.

PV (2-0) plays at Bella Vista in Fair Oaks at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.

Prep girls tennis

In doubles play, the pairs of Fowkes and Schaefer, Kylee Leete and Summer Sun and Emma Syn and Ceci Sims won in straight sets.

PLEASANT VALLEY 9, ENTERPRISE 0 >> Maddux Wilson, Nia Billyos, Morgan Telegan, Mariah Letcher, Hanna Hanf and Alexis

Sprotte won for the Vikings.

Wilson and Telegan, Billyos and Letcher and Sprotte and Lauren Needles all won in doubles play.

PV (2-1) hosts Colusa at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

College men’s soccer

Quintin Benn-John scored two minutes into the second half on a cross pass from Jovanni Casillas to give Butte the lead. Butte was fouled 16 times.

Austin Matthews made five saves. Alexander Hjulmand, Juan Tejada, Adolfo Martínez, Romain Jantcheu were credited for solid performanc­es as well.
