CHICO » The Boys and Girls Club of the North Valley will be hosting its 12th annual “Pasta on the Plaza” spaghetti dinner today. Proceeds from the event will go toward three local chapters and the nearly 300 youth who attend the programs every day, the organization said.

The Boys and Girls Club of the North Valley was formed in 1995 with the goals of providing services to youth centered around development, activities and programs in the area. A local board of volunteers oversee the nonprofit with help from 70 youth developmental professionals. The organization said its volunteer base is around 500 people.

“This is the largest fundraiser for our three Chico campuses and they serve more than 200 kids a day,” said Marketing Director Alex Beehner. “Our goal for this years event is to raise $40,000.”

Beehner said although this year’s “Pasta on the Plaza” will be a bit different — the food is to-go only — the Boys and Girls Club is determined to help families in the north valley. He pointed to the organization only closing for one week during the COVID-19 pandemic as evidence of this.

“Essentially we’ve been open and in-person since May 2020 and haven’t closed our doors since,” Beehner said. “We’re so excited to bring the dinner back and offer it to the community as a way to bring people together to support the kids and families we’ve been supporting through this pandemic.”

The fundraiser, organized with support from Vicki Sayer of State Farm and the California Olive Ranch, will have not only spaghetti with homemade sauce but also salad, garlic bread and antipasti skewers. Tickets are $12 per person and $45 for a family of four. Baked goods provided by the Chico National Charity League and soda will also be available for to purchase. All proceeds will go directly to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rotary Plaza and the Seventh Street roundabout located at 628 Wall St. in Chico.

Tickets are available for purchase on site or at bgcnv.org/campaigns/ pasta.
