Chico State golfers third in Sonoma invite

The Chico State men’s golf team opened its season Monday and Tuesday with a third place finish at the Sonoma State Men’s Invite.

As a team the Wildcats finished 28-over-par to tie with Cal State Monterey Bay. Sonoma State finished second two shots below Chico State and Cal State San Marcos finished first shooting 15-over-par.

Chico State’s Christophe­r Colla finished tied for second on the individual leaderboar­d with a 3-under-par 207. After shooting 71 and 70 in the first two rounds, Colla moved up six spots in the final round after shooting a 66.

Travis Miller finished second for Chico State and 20th overall with a three-round total of 219, and Tyler Ashman and Kyle Katz tied at 223.

Chico State competes next Sept. 27-28 at the Western Washington Invitation­al.

College women’s golf

CHICO STATE AT PLNU SEA LION INVITATION­AL » Chico State shot 66-over-par to finish eighth as a team over the two-day tournament Monday and Tuesday. Cal State San Marcos finished first in the tournament with a 21over par.

Chico State’s Trinity Hernanez shot 7-over-par 151 to tie for seventh place, and Taylor Stewart shot 20-over-par 163.

Chico State next competes Monday and Tuesday at the Birdie Fest Invite in San Rafael.

College men’s soccer

BUTTE 4, EVERGREEN VALLEY 3 » Butte scored two goals in each half to defeat Evergreen Valley on the road Tuesday.

Quintin Benn-John scored two goals for the Roadrunner­s and Juan Monge Allue and Alexander Stroem added one goal each.

Sander Trevor, Allue and Idriss Oubrik each had an

assist for Butte. The Roadrunner­s’ goalkeeper made seven saves on 10 shots on goal by Evergreen Valley.

Butte (3-1-1) plays Hartnell College next at 2 p.m. Friday at Butte College.

College women’s soccer

AMERICAN RIVER 2, BUTTE

Butte lost on the road Tuesday. American River scored one goal in each half and goalkeeper­s Gabby Adams and Katie Matthews recorded four saves each for the Beavers. No stats were recorded for Butte.

Butte (2-2) plays next at 4 p.m. Friday at home against Sacramento City College.

Prep girls tennis

CHICO 9, PLEASANT VALLEY 0 » Paige Sittanggan­g, Skylar Granlund, Aubrey Layland, Addison Fowles, Clare Schaefer and Kaylee Morehead all won in singles at home Tuesday for the Panthers.

In doubles, Sittangang teamed up with Alexa Agnew to win 8-1 in doubles, Erika Matson and Kylee Leele teamed up to win 8-1, and Taylor Seidenstri­cker teamed up with Summer Sun to win 8-0.

Pleasant Valley (3-2, 1-1 Eastern Athletic League) plays next at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Red Bluff.

Chico (3-0, 2-0 EAL) plays next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Shasta.

CHICO STATE 10, HOLY NAMES 0 » The Wildcats scored four goals in the first half and six goals in the second half, while outshootin­g Holy Names 36-2 Monday.

In the first half Summer Baron, Susanna Garcia, Camille Lidster and Emily Billena had one goal each for Chico State. In the second half Bellena scored her second goal, Amber Nunes scored a pair of goals, and Kelli Litchfield, Madi Wilson and Kaitlin Carlton each scored once for the Wildcats.

Seven of Chico State’s goals came from its bench.

The Wildcats recorded 12 assists. Lister recorded two assists and Baron, Carlton, Litchfield, Nicole Fairbanks, Natalie

Mendoza, Kylie Rolling, Sarah Speros, Madison Noll, Alexi Vontsolos and Taylor Russell each recording one apiece.

In net for Chico State goalie Emma Hofman recorded two saves.

Chico State (3-1) plays next at noon Thursday at Dominican University in San Rafael.

Prep field hockey

PLEASANT VALLEY 2, BELLA VISTA 1 » Riley Kucich and Brooklyn Longueira each had a goal for PV in the road victory. Longueira assisted on Kucich’s goal, and Kucich assisted Longueira’s goal.

In goal for PV Taylor Berge recorded one save in the first half before Savannah Cresswell took over in the second half and recorded two saves.

PV (3-0) hosts Davis Senior High School at 5 p.m. Friday.
