Chico High boys, girls swimming teams both take first place at EAL

Chico High, Pleasant Valley, Foothill, Shasta, Red Bluff and Enterprise competed in the Eastern Athletic League Championsh­ip Meet on Thursday in Durham.

Chico High won the varsity girls team competitio­n. Shasta finished second, followed by Foothill, Red Bluff, PV and Enterprise. In the boys competitio­n Chico High took first as well, followed by Shasta, Foothill, Red Bluff, PV and Enterprise.

In the 50 meter freestyle race Chico High’s top finisher was Maddie Smith in second place. In the 100 meter freestyle race Chico’s Sienna Cross finished first, in the 200 meter freestyle race Chico High sophomore Emma Upton finished first, and Upton added a second win in the 500 meter freestyle race.

Chico’s team of Cross, Smith, Audrey Vierra and McKenna Winzenz won the 200 meter freestyle relay. Chico’s team of Emma Alvarez, Nataley Bartel, Ella Solecki and Upton finished first in the 400 meter freestyle race.

Chico’s Brooke Javor won the 100 meter backstroke event, in the 100 meter butterfly race Gabby Mino was the top finisher for PV finishing in second place, In the 200 meter individual medley relay Chico High’s top finisher was Winzenz in second place,

In the 200 meter medley relay for girls, Chico’s team of Cross, Smith, Vierra and Winzenz took first place.

In the boys completion Chico’s Solar Parry won the 50 meter freestyle race. In the 100 meter freestyle race Chico’s Dillan Perry was the top finisher for the Panthers in second place, in the 200 meter freestyle race Chico High’s top finisher was Mason Winzenz in second, and Mason Winzenz won the 500 meter freestyle race for the Panthers.

Chico’s team of Jonas Bourne, Theron Clark, Jaeger Cornwell and Parry took second place in the 200 meter freestyle relay. Chico’s team of Mason Winzenz, Cornwell, Zander Krok and Perry finished first in the 400 meter freestyle relay.

In the 100 meter butterfly face Chico’s Krok finished first. In the 100 meter breaststro­ke PV’s Hunter McGuire finished first. In the 200 meter individual medley relay Pleasant Valley’s McGuire finished first. Chico’s Bourne won the 100 meter backstroke event.

In the boys 200 meter medley relay, Chico’s team of Bourne, Elliott Hull, Krok and Perry took first place. PV’s team of Ethan Besnard, McGuire, Tristan McPherren and Noah JR Smyser finished second in the race.

The combined team scores for boys and girls remained the same, with Chico taking first and PV fifth.

Prep girls volleyball

PLEASANT VALLEY 3, ENTERPRISE 0 » The Vikings defeated Enterprise 259, 25-14, 25-6 on Thursday at Pleasant Valley. Seniors Delaney Thau, Kenna Chapin and Emma Daugherty were honored for senior night on their home match at PV.

Thau and Daugherty led PV in kills with seven each, and Chapin had five kills. Daugherty had a team-high six aces for PV. Chapin led PV in digs with 11, sophomore Kendal Thau had nine digs and Delaney Thau had eight digs.

Alli Mimbs led PV in assists with 12, and Keira Maguire added seven assists.

PV (19-14, 8-2 Eastern Athletic League) now prepares for playoffs beginning Nov. 2.
