ROMEO EDWARD MORIN JR.

March 3, 1935 – December 3, 2021

Born in Littleton, NH to Romeo Sr. and Ellen Morin, Romeo Jr. (Sonny) attended school at Sacred Heart, Lebanon High School and Keene Teacher’s College, earning his master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin. Romeo met his wife, Doris, while they were students at Keene. Upon graduating, they moved to Newport, NH teaching school in Sunapee, where Romeo was also a lifeguard and snow ski instructor.

Romeo and Doris moved from Wisconsin to Northern California to pursue a career as an Admissions Officer at California State University, Chico. After a few years at Chico State, Romeo joined the initial team at Butte College as Director of Admissions.

During his 30-year career, he was especially proud of the Study Abroad Program he helped develop, being recognized as Outstanding Faculty for Teaching.

Excellence, his work as a union representative and his positive influence on college students and faculty. In addition to many friends and colleagues from Chico State and Butte College, Romeo cherished his time spent in Durham Rotary, the Butte Creek Estates neighborhood, gourmet clubs, bridge groups, coffee klatsches, poker nights, annual houseboat adventures and his supporting role in Doris’ Omega Nu activities. Romeo was also well known for his passion of gardening, fishing and story-telling. Romeo is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Doris; daughters JoAnn Powers and Maria Halstead (Christopher); grandchildren Stephen (Theodore), Camille and Charlotte Halstead; and brother John Morin (Sandra). Romeo also leaves behind a niece and nephew and many treasured friends.

Romeo will be buried with his family that preceded him in death in Lebanon, NH. A reception honoring Romeo will be held at 2pm, March 26, 2022 at Italian Guy Venue located 25 Bellarmine Court, Chico, CA.
