VERNON JOSEPH HUNERLACH

Born August 18th, 1927 in Garden City, Kansas. He peacefully passed away March 19th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Friedrich and Emily Hunerlach and brother’s Donald F. Hunerlach and Harold L. Hunerlach, sister-in-law Vivian R. Hunerlach and sister Nathalie Panelli.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Jean Hunerlach of Davis, CA, sons Michael P. Hunerlach (Rene’) of Folsom, CA, Mark D. Hunerlach (Francesca) of Sacramento, CA, and daughter Mary A. Brown (Ronald) of Davis, CA, siblings Mary Hall, Allen, TX, and Ronald Hunerlach (Midge) of Auburn, CA. He was the cherished Grandfather of Shauna, Michael, Emily, Sara, Hanna, Clair, Dominic and Dillard. He was the GreatGrandfather of Hailey, Brandon, Natalie, Lydia, Connor and Remington. Vern was a WWII US Navy Veteran who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends as well as “rock-hounding and prospecting” with his sons. He especially enjoyed hunting with his best friend Wallace E. Reiswig “Wally” for over 75 years who preceded him in death only 1month earlier.

He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed organizing annual family gatherings. Always the sports fan, he cherished attending his grandchildren’s many sports activities. He especially enjoyed whenever he was fishing in local mountain streams and in Alaska where he spent many summers with his sons and grandson.

Vern was a dedicated 4th Degree Grand Knight of the Fraternal Order of the Knights of Columbus, Chico Council No. 1137 for over 60 years. He practiced his faith serving both god and country wherever he lived throughout his life. He had something special, something magical, and something powerful we couldn’t explain. It would come as a surprise when he would reach up into the sky, pull down the stars and made a little heaven here for all of his loved ones who held him so dear.
