Butte County Supervisor­s to talk water

OROVILLE » Water will be a key topic Tuesday as multiple items related to local water and the drought have been slotted for the Butte County Board of Supervisor­s meeting.

An update on the current drought condition will be provided by Josh Jimerfield of the Office of Emergency Management. The presentati­on is set to discus both the status of the state’s drought as well as the emergency water hauling program, the temporary residentia­l water storage program and the emergency water filling station.

“In addition, updates will be provided on the current water year outlook from local water providers; CalWater conservati­on programs and other water conservati­on outreach and education programs,” the related staff report said. “Finally, there will be an update on the suspension of restrictio­ns that apply to water hauled outside the water’s basin of origin. “

Butte County Water and Resource Conservati­on Assistant Director Christina Buck is set to give a presentati­on on the 2021 groundwate­r year.

“Pursuant to Chapter 33 of the Butte County Code, the Department of Water and Resource Conservati­on is required to collect data on groundwate­r levels and report to the Board of Supervisor­s each year on the status of groundwate­r conditions,” the related agenda report said.

An update on water activities will be provided by Kamie Loeser, Director of Water and Resource Conservati­on.

Other business

The board will discuss potentiall­y extending the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program.

This program uses a 1$ tax on vehicle registrati­ons to remove abanded vehicles throughout the county when necessary. According to the related staff report, the county will lose roughly $100,000 in yearly revenue. If approved by the board, the extension will be placed on the November ballot.

A budget adjustment regarding both the design and planning for recreation­al trail features in the Yellowston­e Kelly Trail Corridor. Supervisor Doug Teeter is requesting that $20,000 be used to help fund the process

Supervisor­s Debra Lucero and Tami Ritter, along with county staff, have created a report re

garding a redistrict­ing independen­t commission that is expected to be discussed during Tuesday’s meeting.

A contract with Knife River Constructi­on will be considered for the Skyway Rehabilita­tion Project at a cost of $10.58 million. The project, which will be funded with emergency relief funds, will remove three inches of existing asphalt and replace it with five inches, according to the related agenda report.

The Butte County Board of Supervisor­s generally meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at its chambers located at 25 County Center Drive, Suite 205 in Oroville. Meetings are free and open to the public. Those who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask while in the building.
