Chico school board to note completion for CTE programs
CHICO » The Chico Unified School District Board will hear several presentations at Wednesday’s meeting. One of them regards the Career and Technical Education program at Pleasant Valley High School which has finished several construction projects.
The Culinary Arts, Medical Pathway, Arts, Media and Entertainment, Education, Child Development and Family Services projects have all been completed. Program officials request that the board authorize the administration to approve and carry forth the notices of completion for those projects.
In other news, the CUSD executed a bond oversight committee for oversight of Measures E and K. The committee educate the public regarding the district’s spending of bond proceeds. Also, the committee will look over reports from the district to ensure that bond proceeds were used only for Measures E and K and no bond proceeds were used for teacher or administrative salaries or other operating expenses.
Voters passed Measure E which was a $78 million bond measure authorizing funding for needed repairs, upgrades and new construction projects to the district’s schools, according to the board agenda.
Measure K, a $152 million school bond measure, appeared before Chico voters, as reported previously in this newspaper. The measure, put forth by Chico Unified School District, was introduced to streamline and repair elementary schools and further the district’s Facilities Master Plan. The measure passed in November 2016.
Also, several district employment positions are being terminated because of a lack of work or lack of funds, and the CUSD superintendent has advised the board to eliminate the following positions: instructional paraprofessional at Marigold Elementary School, four paraprofessional positions at Pleasant Valley High School, senior library media assistant at Pleasant Valley High School and categorical funds and office assistant at Chico Junior High School.
In anticipation of the filing of applications for the preschool, transitional kindergarten and full-day kindergarten Facility Grant Program, staff has identified the recommended sites where the district will provide full-day instruction for preschool, transitional kindergarten and full-day kindergarten.
The CUSD board meeting takes place Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 6 p.m. at Marigold Elementary School located at 2446 Marigold Ave.
