GRIDLEY » Safeway shoppers of Gridley, California may say that it was uncommon to have seen Buster Posey, recently retired catcher for the San Francisco Giants shopping for groceries every other week.

However, the former star won’t be shopping in Northern California as often as before after listing his Oroville hunting ranch at a price tag of $3.9 million.

Javier Solis, a baseball coach and father of his own catcher in Gridley, met the former Giant in 2021 while he was shopping with his two sons at Safeway.

The player was friendly with him and his family and even took a picture with the two kids, said Solis.

“He was super nice,” said Jaden Solis. “I went up to him and said, “Mr. Posey, I’m a catcher and was wondering if my brother and I could take a picture with you.””

Posey agreed to take a photo with the two boys and asked Jaden for his name.

“When I told him Jaden he said, “Well Jaden I hope one day I’ll be watching you play catcher in the MLB so I can say I remember that kid,”” said Solis.

The Springer Lodge hit the market at the multimillion dollar price with realtor agent, John Ward from California Outdoor Properties, Inc..

According to the listing on realtor.com, the Butte County property holds five bedrooms and sits at 106 acres of land that includes two creeks. Not only does the land house doves, quail and turkey, but it also holds a lake for fishing bass and catfish.

Posey grew up hunting and fishing in his native Georgia and bought the property in 2016 to pass down the tradition to his four children, according to the report. Ducks, dove, quail, turkey and bucks are game on the property, and there is bass and catfish for fishing.
