A Measure H giveaway to the rich

- — David Fundakowski, Chico

New Year; new leadership in Washington. Kevin McCarthy, Marjorie Greene, Paul Gosar and other anti-democracy members pulled up in their Krazy Klown Kar, itching to weaponize the government against us. Meanwhile there are similar goings-on here in Chico, with our own “Enslave Chico” slate-dominated city council.

During a previous right-wing council era, Nakamura zeroedout the budgets of public art and like items (library?) and hired more police, then came years of ignoring all proposed privatelyfunded homeless solutions in favor of their “The Cruelty IS the Point” locked-restroom methodology, costing the city millions in fines, legal fees and settlementmandated facilities and operations all-the-while preventing we peon citizens from using our City Plaza, fencing it off months at a time. As the kids would say: #EPICFAIL.

You heard the risks of approving Measure H. Now we have the first corrupt act: awarding nearly a half a million dollars to the self-funded DCBA. You got it: they’re taking millions from little-guy citizens and giving it to their downtown businesses-owners friends. Typical Republican anti-socialism: take from the poor and give to the rich.

A better downtown? Siure! How about replacing those trip-hazard patchwork-sidewalks throughout downtown and their 10-inch curbs that we grind our car doors into?

Speaking of empty downtown businesses. Word quickly spread of high-priced mediocre food and poor service at

220 (previously Johnnies?)

To fill that restaurant, try offering better-than-good food at a decent price and hoping word spreads. For that is what doomed it previously.
