launched its celebration of Black History Month with a gathering at the student center lounge at the school’s main campus Wednesday.

Events scheduled for the main campus at 3536 Butte Campus Drive, Oroville, including film screenings, student panels and guest speakers.

Butte and Chico State will host a joint event honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Victory in Unity” which will take place at Wildcat

Plaza on the Chico State campus, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Art Day in Maker Space” is set for the Maker Space in the main campus’ Arts Department from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees can learn methods of art creation with artist Regina Davis.

A student panel, providing an opportunity to hear from a student’s perspective on how to better support Black students through this semester, will take place at the Sustainability Resource Center, noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23.

The interactive educational campaign will feature profiles of Black Americans who have made significant contributions to the arts, science, mathematics, literature and athletics. Posters are on display at locations throughout the college. When scanned by a mobile device, the QR code on the posters will launch an interactive web page highlighting notable figures in the fields taught at those particular locations.

Butte College’s IDEA office, Umoja, the Culture and Community Center, and Black Voices organized the events. A full calendar is available at butte.edu/calendars.
