EDWARD ORDORICA

On Sunday, February 5th, 2023, Dr. Edward John Ordorica, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 73 after his battle with esophageal cancer. Edward was born on December 11th, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, to Edward and Esperanza Ordorica. Edward was the eldest of 6 and is survived by his mother and siblings, Claudia, Cecilia, Verana, Michael, and Raul.

He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Long Island, NY. He earned his undergradu­ate degree at Northweste­rn University, attended medical school at State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center, completed his internship at Presbyteri­an St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, CO, and finished his residency at UC Davis at the Radiation Oncology Center in Sacramento, CA.

After his residency, Dr. Ordorica accepted employment as a Radiation Oncologist at Enloe Hospital in Chico, CA. He then relocated to Imperial Valley Radiation Oncology in El Centro, CA, and later finished his career at the Oroville Hospital Radiation Oncology Clinic in Oroville, CA. Dr. Ordorica helped plan and open the new innovative, progressiv­e care clinic at Oroville Hospital. He had over 45 years of experience and those who knew him remember his exceptiona­l impact on the community. Edward was a member of the American Medical Associatio­n (AMA), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Therapeuti­c Radiology & Oncology (ASTRO), California Radiologic­al Society (CRS), American Philatelis­t Society, Chico Running Club, and Chico Aquajet Master Swimmers.

Edward was happiest when he was running and swimming. He loved to be in Upper Bidwell Park and on the beach in San Diego. Edward was a coach to his children in various sports for many years, a triathlete, and completed the Ironman in Napa Valley at the age of 50. He was a photograph­er, avid stamp collector, and enjoyed reading science fiction, physics, calculus, and astronomy.

Edward and Mary were married at St. Bridget’s Church in Westbury, NY on April 3rd, 1977. Edward was loved by his devoted wife, Mary, of 45 years, along with their five children, Leif, Raquel, Cheryl, Marilyn, and Christina. He also found joy in the moments he spent with his seven grandchild­ren, Elliot, Ashleigh, James, Sonja, Maya, Liam, and Jaxon. Edward was generous, intelligen­t, hardworkin­g, humorous, and devoted to his family.

The Celebratio­n of Life will commence on Monday, February 20th, 2023, at 9:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church located at 416 Chestnut St, Chico, CA 95928. Burial will be at the Chico Cemetery located at 881 Mangrove Ave, Chico, CA 95926, with a reception to follow at the Creekside Rose Garden at the CARD Community Center located at 545 Vallombros­a Ave, Chico, CA 95926.
