North Valley Community Foundation grants $30K to emergency organizations in wake of storms

- Staff reports

The North Valley Community Foundation announced that it has selected six different organizations to grant $5,000 each to mitigate impacts from the recent and ongoing storm events in Butte County.

According to press releases issued by the foundation, a total of $30,000 will be distributed amongst the Wildfire Resource and Recovery Center in Oroville, the Magalia Community Church, the Oroville Hope

Center, the Disability Action Center, the Safe Space Winter Shelter and Butte County Search and Rescue.

“The cumulative effects of these constant storms are having disastrous consequences in our area, often in communities that are still trying to recover from wildfires,” said Alexa Benson-Valavanis, the foundation’s president and CEO. “In times like these, everybody plays to their strengths. We know there are many organizations and individuals doing vital work. What they need most is cash donations to buy things like food, blankets, propane and other life-saving items. Our strength is our network of kindhearted people who want to give to those efforts but are unsure how to go about it. They know we will get their donations in the right hands.”

The money comes from the Disaster Immediate Relief Fund which was opened with donations from the foundation as well as the Aaron Rodgers NorCal Recovery Fund.

“This fund will allow us to make these proactive grants today and more later as new needs arise and donations come in. NVCF is committing the first $50,000 and will have the first round of vital grants deployed today,” BensonValavanis said.

The release said the foundation is working on creating a process for organizations to apply for grants which will be announced at a later date. Donations can be given at nvcf.org/disaster-immediate-relief-fund.
