Seeking explanation for party-line vote
It's my own fault! I wrote our Congressman, Doug LaMalfa, expecting a reasoned explanation as to why he voted to censure Congressman Adam Schiff. What I got instead was a facile response accusing Schiff of “embellishing the transcript of the call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelinsky.” (Spelling correction, congressman: it's Zelensky.)
And what was in that call? Trump asking Zelensky for dirt on Joe Biden and his son, Hunter! Trump threatening to hold back a visit by Mike Pence to Ukraine. Refusing to release funding for Ukraine, $400 million, in its ongoing battle with Russia. What effect did that have upon the Ukrainian soldiers?
And then there's the information from those stalwarts of truth, Rudy Giuliani and William Barr. What was their part in this debacle? But Congressman Doug LaMalfa didn't refer to any of these items. Just a thumbs down, vote along party lines and flaccid appeasement to shut me up: “I am dedicated to working to legislate solutions for my constituents, rather than getting caught up in partisan nonsense.” Isn't that exactly what you did? Come on, Congressman LaMalfa, your constituents deserve better than that. — Lynn H. Elliott, Chico
