Here's a way to beat high gas prices
I read in a recent E-R Hit and Miss column that “local gas prices are back over $5 a gallon everywhere you look.” This was shocking news to me that I didn't know about. That's really expensive.
The reason I didn't know how expensive gas is now is because I rarely drive our car. I mostly ride my bike for transportation. In fact, I can't remember the last time I had to buy gas. I ride a bike, not just to save money, but because I've actually come to prefer it to driving our car. And, as a senior citizen, I'm comforted knowing that I'm not adding to the awful climate crisis we humans find ourselves in now and that will affect generations to come. That's why I'm in favor of the city's “Complete Streets Project” which would make walking and bike riding downtown a lot safer than it is now.
Since the city has to dig up the downtown streets anyway to replace 100-year-old sewer lines it's the perfect time to put in safe, new pedestrian sidewalks and bicycle infrastructure (there is no bike infrastructure now), totally separate from the car lanes. Go to the City of Chico's website and search for “Chico Complete Streets Project” and see for yourself. I think it's beautiful. — Karen Laslo, Chico
