Voters die — and eventually are removed

-

I'd like to address the concern about the possibility that 400,000 dead people, illegal aliens and felons might be having votes cast for them in significant numbers that can skew elections in California due to the nefarious means of “ballot harvesting” (“State's Republicans must fight for election security”, Letters to the ER, April 23rd).

There are dead people on California's voter rolls. Voters do eventually die, and they stop voting. The official process to remove dead people from the voter's rolls involves their placement on the “inactive voter” list when their voting inactivity is noted. Over time, these inactive voter's names are eventually removed from the California voter rolls.

While some California aliens under some special circumstances can register for a provisional driver's license, the “motor voter” provision only allows them to register to vote if they meet certain criteria (Must be a United States citizen and a resident of California; Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony; Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court).

I think it is significant that the California Republican Party (CRP) Election Integrity Chair, Randy Bergholtz, apparently shares the opinion with the RNC that California elections are fair and honest. Perhaps he believes that because he can find no evidence otherwise?

Still concerned about dead voters, illegal aliens and felons voting in Butte County? Please contact our Chief Election Official/Registrar of Voters, Keaton Denlay, a registered Republican, and ask him for his thoughts. — Mark S. Gailey, Chico
