OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME Aaron Rodgers, quarterback, Packers

While the Green Bay offense was far from perfect in a seasonopening victory, Rodgers was the difference in the game. On a scorching afternoon, he accounted for three touchdowns: a 6-yard run in the first quarter and two touchdown strikes in the second stanza. The stats were pedestrian by his standards: 20 completions in 34 attempts for 199 yards. Rodgers was at his best on his two touchdown throws, extending the plays with his feet and elusiveness in the pocket and frustrating defenders in the process. “I don’t think we played all that well offensively,” Rodgers said, stating the Packers’ final drive was “embarrassing.” Mike McCarthy said: “Our standard of play is nowhere we want it to be, but it was good enough to win in Week 1.”

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME Damarious Randall, cornerback, Packers

The second-year defensive back will garner attention for his initial hit on Jacksonville receiver Allen Hurns on fourth down that sealed Green Bay’s victory. But Randall was all over the field Sunday, recording five tackles, breaking up two passes, and just missing an interception along the sideline. He also made two plays that aren’t fully reflected on stat sheets: saving a touchdown by tackling tight end Marcedes Lewis on a 37-yard screen play in the first quarter and preventing a long kickoff return by pushing Corey Grant out of bounds after a 32-yard return early in the fourth quarter.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME

Brad Norton, punter, Jaguars Fortunately for the Packers, Norton only punted twice on Sunday. The Brookfield, Wis., native and former University of Wisconsin star pinned Green Bay back twice deep in their own territory in the first quarter, averaging a whopping 62.5 yards per kick. On Jacksonville’s second possession, Norton’s 58-yard punt was downed at the 3-yard line, flipping the field position. On the last play of the quarter, Norton blasted a 67-yar- der that was again downed on the 3. Green Bay went three-and-out after both punts.
