Noir notes: Adrienne Haan’s cabaret
The Santa Fe Jewish Film Festival is focusing on Émigrés, Exiles & Film Noir this year. To add a live-performance element, it is hosting (in cooperation with Performance Santa Fe) the singer Adrienne Haan, assisted by pianist Richard Danley, in an evening titled Between Fire & Ice. Crafted to suggest a Berlin cabaret show of the 1920s, it includes numbers by such acclaimed songwriters as Friedrich Hollaender, Mischa Spoliansky, and Kurt Weill. Haan boasts an impressive résumé of appearances, with ensembles ranging from the Cologne Philharmonic and WDR Symphony to New York’s eminent Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks (of Boardwalk Empire fame). Her performances take place at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, at the María Benítez Cabaret Theatre in The Lodge at Santa Fe (750 N. St. Francis Drive). Tickets ($30 and $40) can be had by calling 505-984-8759 or visiting www.performancesantafe.org. — J.M.K.
