Please release me: Joaquin Gallegos
Flamenco guitarist Joaquin Gallegos brings a five-piece ensemble to Skylight (139 W. San Francisco St., 505-982-0775) at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 26, to celebrate the release of his second studio album, Nuevos Comienzos. The CD features a selection of lovely melodies as well as Gallegos’ lightning-fast strumming and fingerpicking. Among the 17 guest musicians on the disc are percussionists Francisco Javier Orozco, Robby Rothschild, and Javi Ktumba Mera Rodriguez; and pianist Alex Conde. Gallegos, a Santa Fe native, has been playing guitar since age nine. He studied for years in Andalusia and learned details of accompaniment while living with Gypsies in Granada. He has toured with the New York company Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana. Tickets are $10; visit www.skylightsantafe.com. — Paul Weideman
