ON THIS FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND, benevolent Venus, thoughtful Mercury, and energizing Mars all interact with freedom-loving Jupiter. Just what does freedom mean to us?

Because the planets like to work across the board, we’re asked to contemplate this question every which way — politically, economically, and spiritually. The Venus-Jupiter conjunction suggests that whatever we do will tend to be on a grand scale. Mercury sextiles Jupiter and wants us to discuss freedom in all its many forms. Mars challenges Jupiter and encourages us to wrestle over plans or play fiercely. Be careful around flammable material, political topics, and personalities.

This holiday weekend begins under a communal picnic-oriented Aquarius moon. We respond well to fireworks, parades, and all other events that promote group activity more than intimacy. Keep the agenda loose, because we resist heavy expectations.

On Sunday the energy turns muscular, competitive, and yet sensitive. Monday calls us to rest up and contemplate the ephemeral quality of beauty as the sun opposes Pluto. We also feel rumbles in the background at the edges of a power play.

Midweek we’re asked to clarify our work for the next few months as the moon enters feisty Aries while Mercury enters introspective Cancer. We can use the time for strategic planning and notice how much support is actually available.

FRIDAY, JULY 3: A communications snafu reminds us of unfinished business. By noon, people start getting vacation-minded and have trouble completing tasks. Tonight we can easily open lines of communication as long as we make room for everyone.

SATURDAY, JULY 4: Watch out for a slightly accident-prone or cranky phase tonight — be careful with fireworks and watch out for a tendency to overdo things. Enjoy an unusual capacity to appreciate the buzz of humankind — as long as we know our escape route. The crowd’s fine, crowding is not.

SUNDAY, JULY 5: We become more sensitive and edgy as the moon enters intimate, delicate Pisces just as Mars challenges Jupiter and brings out our pugnacious streak. Be honest and caring rather than manipulative, even if feeling needy. If we’re presented with difficult decisions tonight as the sun tangles with Saturn, let’s set clean, clear boundaries.

MONDAY, JULY 6: Sleep in as the moon conjuncts Neptune this morning. The holiday fog begins to clear, and we see the work that needs to be tackled in the months ahead as the sun opposes Pluto. It’s easy to feel we are unable to tackle the work at hand, but we can gather our forces rather than get depressed. If we’re not judgmental toward others, we’ll feel better about ourselves.

TUESDAY, JULY 7: Our brains want to stay on holiday. Momentum picks up around noon as the moon enters edgy Aries. A hidden or delayed ambition demands our attention. Tonight we tend to think other people are doing things all wrong.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 8: We spin our wheels because we’re feeling ambiguous about matters. The situation is more complicated than expected as the Aries moon squares Pluto this morning. Later, we need to clear our minds and find our vision again. Our stories become more important tonight as thoughtful Mercury enters reflective Cancer.

THURSDAY, JULY 9: We may long for a more beautiful world and are willing to work for it as the Aries moon trines Venus and Jupiter. We need to feel an intense connection, and if ignored, we can become ornery. Midday, a special kind of genius needs channeling. The mood-setting moon enters a more settled and sensual Taurus tonight.
