ON THE SURFACE we have a sociable summer’s week ahead. Along with sunny weather, there is a season-long Venus-Jupiter conjunction that continues to glow in the western evening sky and warm our hearts, stir creativity, and encourage interaction.

But like the afternoon thundershowers currently enlivening our days, we also head into a few tense aspects that ask us to find a productive use for discontent. They encourage us to break down and rebuild some structure in our lives that’s not quite working, whether it’s our front porch or the economic state of the European Union.

The weekend begins under a Taurus moon, good for delicious picnics and visits with friendly relatives. Important dialogues start on Sunday, though information comes in bits of broken conversation. But this can lead to some form of crisis midweek. We have the creativity to resolve these issues quickly if we’re willing to honor one another’s need for safety and security in the process.

Mercury joins Mars and both approach a potentially scary opposition to Pluto on Wednesday, bringing our minds to whatever we worry about. This aspect can also bring damage with blustery winds or scalding words. Let’s forgive ourselves our overwhelming moments and practice good self-care, and build up our resilience by availing ourselves of summer’s beauty and the support of people around us.

FRIDAY, JULY 10: We’ll be frustrated if we try to hurry people or change their minds, but a settled pace allows us to sink our teeth into work that takes diligence and curiosity. Evening is perfect for a slow meal, though a cranky spell may kick in toward midnight.

SATURDAY, JULY 11: A challenging Mercury-Saturn aspect can cause us to think productively about a problem. Relationship tension can complicate this afternoon but resolves if we don’t exacerbate it. Tonight, the moon enters verbal Gemini and brings a second wind.

SUNDAY, JULY 12: Our nerves can feel frazzled, our attention interrupted. Relocate, travel, reorganize; find a productive use for discontent. Notice the desire to act out, and think it through.

MONDAY, JULY 13: Use this interestingly imaginative and productive day to either relax near water or envision a difference. We can think outside the box, imaginatively solve problems, and communicate. Be ready to rest the brain and let the wheels spin tonight.

TUESDAY, JULY 14: It’s easy to feel a little sulky and want the world to prove that we’re safe and loved. Tension begins or discomfort can build as the moon wanes in sensitive Cancer while emotional Venus squares Saturn. We can test relationships when we really need to be supporting and structuring. Don’t ask people to take business risks today or tomorrow.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 15: Lead with kindness, empathy, and stay grounded. Engage a desire to break down and rebuild in a safe and productive way. Be careful around sharp implements. Mercury and Mars conjunct; both oppose Pluto and bring conflict to a head. The new moon brings a turning point.

THURSDAY, JULY 16: Our resilience may have been tested yesterday, so today we need to take care of ourselves, practice our strength, and consider our next moves. Even if our defenses feel twitchy, we need to make balanced decisions and move forward. Our mood expands in the late afternoon as the moon enters sociable Leo.
