LIKE A LION, LEO CAN ROAR, but also has a lazy streak. The sun, moon, and Venus all conjunct in abundant Leo and trine restless Uranus on Friday, a day rich with expectations and dramatic undertones and, if we’re lucky, a catnap. Under this Leo influence we may find it hard to shift gears into action. However, once we get going, life can move quickly from pleasantly sociable to sitcom or drama.

This morning’s new moon brings us back to what we need and to what works. We don’t have to dramatize our situation as an excuse to do what we need to do — we should just send out clear signals and act with integrity.

As the moon enters more industrious and thoughtful Virgo over the weekend, practical necessities start knocking on our door, and we get nervous thinking about the future. Direct this anxious energy into learning a skill or building a momentum around social-justice issues.

Next week is emotionally and creatively experimental. This aspect helps us try out our sense of aesthetics and prepare to meet new people as we start looking ahead to the fall. Just make sure we experiment in ways that do not endanger what’s already working.

FRIDAY, AUG. 14: Channel the positive side of Leo on this new moon. Be generous, creative, expressive, and a social-emotional leader. We may act out, so let’s write our plot lines carefully. Early evening brings out our outgoing and sociable if high-maintenance sides; later, tiredness can bring out a pompous streak.

SATURDAY, AUG. 15: The details can set us free this morning as the moon conjuncts Jupiter in cautious Virgo. Our health and our emotions are deeply intertwined. Drift and dream tonight as the moon opposes Neptune.

SUNDAY, AUG. 16: It’s a good day to listen, learn, and develop skills. Speak and be open to healthy criticism as the moon conjuncts Mercury in Virgo. Watch out for a tendency to think that if we just corrected our loved ones, all our problems would be solved.

MONDAY, AUG. 17: We may wake up cranky; our irritation can inflame old problems as Mars challenges Chiron. Acts of bravery may be needed as the moon enters Libra midday. Create pleasant egalitarian connections tonight.

TUESDAY, AUG. 18: Creative discontent gives us a desire to see people we haven’t seen in awhile. Deeper discontent or melancholia can haunt us midday as the moon squares Pluto. Be willing to let go.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 19: We look for greener pastures to explore as Venus trines restless Uranus. We want to feel beautiful and can become irritated with the nonideal quality of our relationships or wardrobes. Harsh words hurt; poetry rather than logic gets our point across.

THURSDAY, AUG. 20: People hold on to their beliefs during arguments, and each person’s logic is unique as Mercury challenges Uranus under a Scorpio moon. Under stress, go to a neutral corner. If we really need dramatic intensity, we can look for a worthy cause and don’t create one at home.
