Rita Bard: Art’s Birthday
2016, mixed media
Axle Contemporary, 505-670-5854; 505-670-7612 Join Axle Contemporary at the New Mexico Museum of Art from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17, to celebrate art’s one million and fifty-third birthday, for the first time in Santa Fe. It’s an annual, global event first proposed in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou, who declared that art began one million years ago on Jan. 17 (his own birthday). Axle’s fete takes place inside its mobile gallery (weather permitting), which will be parked outside NMMoA (107 W. Palace Ave.). Enjoy some cake, open mic sessions, readings by artists, hat-making activities, and a 1 p.m. performance by the Greg Butera Trio. The event is hosted by ArtBeat’s Kathryn M. Davis and artist Rita Bard.
