EXPECT TO BE appalled, passionate, infuriated, and, if we’re lucky, elated. Whatever our political leanings, we can move into a more emotionally volatile, reactive mode as Mars enters feisty Aries this week and Venus follows next week. Look for them in the early evening sky, close together in the west.

As weekend begins with a new moon in collective Aquarius, we may really notice the change in the political climate and how that affects our social circle. This new moon starts a new chapter in our relationship to community, politics, policy, and social life, but what’s in that chapter is up to us. Mercury conjuncts Pluto on Sunday and brings to mind the problems of our life and what we want to do about it. Our personal version of this pattern may just be a need to reassess who we want to spend time with, what we want to discuss when we gather, and what is our commitment to our community, both local and global.

Mars in Aries gives us the guts to start off in a fresh direction. It amps up both rebellious energy and the authoritarian response to that resistance. It’s a good time to make sure everyone feels like they’re on the same side to protect one another. This Mars aspect can add fuel to our tempers.

We can get moody unless we know our next steps as Mercury conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn on Sunday. Capricorn likes to know what mountain to climb next. We may feel an urgency to get other people to understand our perspective, even as they automatically resist the pressure and are wary of manipulative rhetoric.

Tuesday shifts life into an action movie as thoughtful Mercury squares urgent Uranus. As our nervous energy ratchets up, we need to take a deep breath and work toward what will serve us best for the long haul.

FRIDAY, JAN. 27: We can argue six ways around the block under the new Aquarius moon. Midday, if respect feels tested, hold out for what matters. Gumption flows as Mars enters Aries; take thoughtful risks and start something new. If sparks fly, let them be delightful ones.

SATURDAY, JAN. 28: Go somewhere fresh and different as the moon trines Jupiter. Take any opportunity to broaden our horizons; learn and network.

SUNDAY, JAN. 29: Check in on the vulnerable as Mercury conjuncts Pluto, focusing our concerns just as the moon enters sensitive Pisces. We run through our worst-case scenarios so we know we can handle them, and then we need to ask what things would look like if everything worked out.

MONDAY, JAN. 30: This morning a moon-Neptune conjunction leaves us foggy or uncertain as Mars in Aries demands action. Use the energy to do busy work while the mind wanders and investigates.

TUESDAY, JAN. 31: After a slow morning, look for sudden decisions and radical moves under the Aries moon. Think carefully about sudden snap decisions; ask if it really is a good idea or just nerves talking. Take a meditative approach — accidents and rants increase with distraction as Mercury squares Uranus.

WEDNESDAY, FEB.1: Assess the situation — landscapes and mindsets may have changed overnight. People are more collaborative as long as they are not told what to do. Tonight, as the moon squares Pluto, let moods flow through and come out the other side.

THURSDAY, FEB. 2: Look to actions, not words, for what’s really going on. Words may sound hollow but our busy minds and engaged conversation may come up with solutions. We look for cozy comfort as the moon enters earthy Taurus.
