David Richard Gallery, 1570 -AI Pacheco St., 505-983-9555 Siz­zle and Chill, an ex­hi­bi­tion of paint­ings by Rakuko Naito and Tadaaki Kuwayama, con­tin­ues through April 9. Born and raised in Ja­pan, the two artists stud­ied tra­di­tional Ja­panese paint­ing be­fore mar­ry­ing and com­ing to New York in 1958. Both artists moved away from tra­di­tional Ja­panese tech­niques but also avoided the trend to­ward Ab­stract Ex­pres­sion­ism pop­u­lar in New York at the time, in­stead ex­plor­ing Hard-edge op­ti­cal paint­ings with flat planes, re­duc­tive forms, and eye-pop­ping pat­terns and col­ors.
