David Richard Gallery, 1570-A1 Pacheco St., 505-983-9555 Using a reductive palette, Richard Roth creates artworks with bold, graphic designs in which he explores perception, optics, and the tension between two- and three-dimensional forms. His paintings are small-sized compositions rendered on squat rectangular panels, four inches thick and a foot in height. “In spite of their diminutive stature and stark vocabulary, my paintings involve my interest in play, the quotidian, and the ‘retinal,’ ” he wrote in a statement. His solo exhibition, Shocks and Struts, is currently on view through June 3.
