Rance Jones: Gladiolas 2016-2017, watercolor
Worrell Gallery, 103 Washington Ave., 505-989-4900 Watercolor painter Rance Jones captures small moments in the lives of people across cultures, rendering their figures and the landscapes they inhabit in a realist style. His paintings are intimate, relatable observations of everyday life. La Vida de Una Montaña ,an exhibit of his watercolors of Peru, opens Friday, June 16, with a 5 p.m. reception.
David Dornan: Consequence 2016, oil on canvas
Meyer Gallery, 225 Canyon Road, 505-983-1434 The still-life paintings of David Dornan are a glimpse into the working methods and studio of the artist, capturing the drips and splotches of paint, oil-caked brushes, and paint containers Dornan uses when he creates his works. An exhibition of his studio still lifes and other works opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, June 16.
Sunny Taylor: St. Anne 2017, acrylic on panel
Nüart Gallery, 670 Canyon Road, 505-988-3888 New works by four artists — Sunny Taylor, Richard Berman, Howard Hersh, and Guillaume Seff — are featured in Abstraction, an exhibit that explores contemporary trends in nonobjective art. Each artist examines abstraction in a different way, such as gestural, expressionistic brushwork, hard-edge geometric compositions, and linear paintings. The show opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Friday, June 16.
Fritz Scholder (1937-2005): Cowboy Indian 1974, lithograph
LewAllen Galleries, 1613 Paseo de Peralta, 505-988-3250 The gallery’s selection of works from three prominent Fritz Scholder collections — the Fritz Scholder Estate, the Lisa Scholder Collection, and the Romona Scholder Collection — is on display through July 23. The exhibit, Fritz Scholder: Paradox of the Figure, is an opportunity to see rare and never-before exhibited works that span the length of his career. There is a reception on Friday, June 30, at 5 p.m.
Darrell Wilks: Alcina Burlesque 2017, mixed-media collage on newsprint
Santa Fe Community Gallery, 201 W. Marcy St., 505-955-6707 Santa Fe Opera’s 2017 season provides the impetus for Spectacle, a collaborative exhibit between the SFO and the Santa Fe Arts Commission. More than 20 New Mexico-based artists created work in response to the season’s forthcoming operas. Artists include Rosa Silbert, Max Lehman, Darrell Wilks, and others. The show remains on view through August.
