Steve Reisch: The Smoker

Center for Contemporary Arts, 1050 Old Pecos Trail, 505-982-1338 Photographer Steve Reisch first met John Cassavetes during the preproduction phase of the actor and director’s stage production Three Plays of Love and Hate, which Reisch then proceeded to document in a series of behind-the-scenes black-and-white images called The Cassavetes Project. The photographs, taken over the course of six months in 1981, are intimate portraits of the cast and crew, including Cassavetes, Peter Falk, Jon Voight, and Gena Rowlands. Twenty-seven shots from the project, selected from more than 3,000 images, are on view at CCA through Aug. 13.
