THE PLANETS ask us thought-provoking questions this week. Our teams call us, people need us, and civic duty knocks on the door, yet we may have lingering personal work percolating throughout this winter. How do we balance our own requirements with those of our community, and how do we practice good self-care while we honor our responsibilities? And how do we keep life interesting? This week’s full moon in Leo, along with a lunar eclipse, wants to know.

If we’re too self-centered, the world becomes a worse place. If we overextend ourselves and put others ahead of our own priorities, we lose the resilience we require in order to be of service. The sun and Venus — now in expansive, political Aquarius, and joined by Mercury on Wednesday — help us to see the bigger picture. On a practical level, they encourage us to think about our civic involvement; on a more metaphysical level, they urge us to dwell on the interconnectedness of all sentient beings.

During the shadow side of Aquarius, let’s make sure we’re honest with ourselves. Motivating Mars enters outspoken and restless Sagittarius, helping us to speak up — and then to let go of — something that’s been weighing heavily on our hearts.

The weekend begins under a talkative Gemini moon. A more introspective Cancer moon on Sunday night through early Tuesday encourages us to take care of our home lives and our health. The Leo moon and lunar eclipse early on Wednesday may give us a wake-up call — just watch a tendency to create drama for the fun of it.

FRIDAY, JAN. 26: Something tugs at our emotions, but we become distracted instead of working it out as Mars enters Sagittarius. This afternoon the moon enters verbal Gemini, preparing us for a new conversation. Tempers spark quickly as the moon opposes Mars, so put a five-minute wait time on snappy remarks or sudden decisions.

SATURDAY, JAN. 27: We may notice a growing tension or sense of urgency, but at least we can talk about it as the moon trines the sun and Venus. Let’s keep our minds open and be ready to make a change. Make tonight magical. SUNDAY, JAN. 28: Question any urge to run away and join the circus, though it is a good time to try something new as Mercury squares Uranus. Accidents are more likely early on. We may feel safer as the moon enters Cancer after noon, but also less experimental. Tonight, rest and plan the week ahead. MONDAY, JAN. 29: Go gently or expect crankiness this morning. Make sure messages are received, and track important things carefully; we may feel fuzzy-headed as the day progresses. TUESDAY, JAN. 30: Listen to a person’s grievances. Give them room to create a solution, and watch the mood improve. The moon enters Leo in early afternoon; give the heart something dramatic to do. Watch the tendency to blow up an emotional situation just for the excitement. Find a constructive way to howl at the full moon tonight. WEDNESDAY, JAN. 31: The lunar eclipse this morning could shift our world, so let’s check in with one another. If feelings turn operatic, turn down the volume, but do listen. People respond with new stubbornness; look for a bigger perspective.

THURSDAY, FEB. 1: Early on, people need attention and reassurance. Later on, it’s time to get back to work. Watch a tendency to feel sorry for oneself or expect other people to knuckle down on command. As the moon enters Virgo, don’t get cranky, get efficient.
