A PEEK AT WHAT’S SHOWING AROUND TOWN
Peggy McGivern: Bag of Cotton 2018, mixed media on canvas Alexandra Stevens Gallery, 820 Canyon Road, 505-988-1311 Alexandra Stevens Gallery celebrates the month of love and romance with a group show of works by Katrina Howarth, Phil Epp, Walker Moore, Jody Rigsby, Jeannine Young, Peggy McGivern, and others. The annual Heartfelt Expressions exhibit includes two- and three-dimensional art. The exhibit opens at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.
Holly Roberts: Blue Bird 2010, mixed media Turner Carroll Gallery, 725 Canyon Road, 505-986-9800 The exhibition Holly Roberts: Looking Back continues through March 5. The show includes a selection from the New Mexicobased artist’s student years in San Miguel de Allende, as well as more recent works. Roberts’ anthropomorphic subjects and animal imagery are made using a combination of photography and paint. The exhibit is shown in honor of her retrospective Holly Roberts: 33 Years, on view at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, Massachusetts.

Rothschild: Peace Anti-War Rally, Central Park, Spring 1968 1968, gelatin silver print Monroe Gallery of Photography, 112 Don Gaspar Ave., 505-992-0800 The gallery’s exhibition 1968: It Was Fifty Years Ago Today continues through April 15. The show includes more than 50 photographs that cover a historic, turbulent time in America’s past, including such events as the Vietnam War protests, the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the My Lai massacre, and other iconic moments from a benchmark year.
Da Vinci — The Genius (installation shot) New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, 1801 Mountain Road, NW, Albuquerque, 505-841-2800 Grande Exhibitions, creators of blockbuster touring shows, organized the museum’s current display, which demonstrates the range of Leonardo da Vinci’s extraordinary talents. Da Vinci — The Genius shows off his ingenuity as an inventor, painter, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, musician, and architect. The exhibition features life-size mechanical inventions based on da Vinci’s original designs and prototypes, as well as animations of his most well-known Renaissance works. It also offers an in-depth look at the enigmatic portrait Mona Lisa. The interactive show remains on view through July 29. Entrance is by museum admission.
Rebecca Bluestone: Color Study 6 2013, silk, dyes, cotton warp Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art, 558 Canyon Road, 505-992-0711 The gallery’s Winter Group Show II, the second seasonal exhibit of gallery artists’ works, continues through March 10. It includes photographs by Renate Aller, mixed-media works by Neal Ambrose-Smith, hand-dyed tapestries by Rebecca Bluestone, paintings by Chris Richter and from the estate of Harry Fonseca, and more.
