Mixed Media Conjured Futures at the Railyard
Contemporary photography in New Mexico is the energetic core of the Conjured Futures projected images event showing Thursday, June 7, and Friday, June 8, at 7 p.m. on the north side of the Santa Fe Railyard shade structure. The outdoor program is presented in conjunction with the InterPlanetary Festival, hosted by the Santa Fe Institute.
Drone and aerial photography have had time to make a mark on people’s consciousness about the environment and effects of human activity on places and life near and far. That awakened perspective has generated deeper awareness of environmental and socio-economic developments, as well as potential calamities. This event’s founders want to focus on protection and restoration technologies. What will the future really look like?
Conjured Futures is intended to present and question new technologies that are likely to shape the planet’s destiny. Solutions and alternate outcomes will be explored in these projections, which curators say are meant to emphasize healing and remediation. For more about the juried images, go to visitcenter.org.
The projection program is part of PhotoSummer, a collaborative initiative in its fourth year that promotes historical and contemporary photography in New Mexico. By showcasing the work of both established and emerging artists, this joint effort highlights New Mexico as a place where excellent photographic work is produced, taught, and exhibited.
The PhotoSummer events for 2018 are organized by CENTER, Axle Contemporary, and the American Society of Media Photographers in Santa Fe. The initiative features public photography programs that span regional, national, and international artists, curators, and scholars.
