Oh, that voice! Josh Hoyer

If Josh Hoyer’s voice sounds familiar when he plays on the Plaza with his band, Soul Colossal, it’s probably because he was on the NBC reality- style singing contest The Voice in 2017, where his deep raspy vocals attracted the attention of judges Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. He faltered in the battle rounds, as some of the most talented singers do. But maybe it’s better that way, because we get Hoyer un-made-over by the Hollywood glamour machine, still with the gritty, soulful rawness that characterizes the best of the free summer bandstand concerts.
