Mixed Media Spanish Market
ET CETERA
A veritable extravaganza of New Mexico art awaits you in downtown Santa Fe on Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29. At Spanish Market, held on the Plaza, more than 200 artists from New Mexico and southern Colorado sell their work in traditional art forms that date back at least to the 16th century and the days of the conquistadors, including woodcarvings, tinwork, hide paintings, retablos, weavings, pottery, and furniture. The event also features continuous musical entertainment on the bandstand and numerous food vendors.
At Contemporary Hispanic Market — just north of the Plaza on Lincoln Avenue — more than 130 Hispanic artists from New Mexico offer creations in a broad array of mediums, including printmaking, sculpture, recycled art, metalwork, photography, and painting. Both markets run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and entry is free of charge. For those wanting early access to the traditional artists and their wares, there is a Spanish Market Preview on Friday, July 27, at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe (555 Camino de la Familia). Collectors Hour ($80) begins at 5 p.m. and public viewing ($20) is at 6 p.m. For tickets to the Spanish Market Preview, call 505-982-2226.
