THIS WEEK could see us limping into it and laughing on the way out. Let’s keep our expectations low and our compassion wide open Friday and Saturday as emotional Venus, retrograde since Oct. 6, turns direct. Meanwhile, Mercury turns retrograde now through Dec. 7, all under a perceptive but easily overwhelmed Pisces moon. Anything can happen, so let’s cut each other a lot of slack.

Venus closes one emotional or creative chapter and makes room for a new one. Mercury in retrograde nags us to finish what we’ve already started or tend an urgent side agenda before we launch anything new.

After a few emotional days, our energy picks up as the moon enters feisty Aries on Sunday. Suddenly we realize all the work we have to accomplish as competitive Mars squares Jupiter on Monday. Just as deadlines loom, retrograde Mercury slows down and complicates the situation. Accidents increase when we get distracted, while tempers and fires flare easily, but these aspects can also encourage heroic behavior. With Mercury in retrograde, let’s keep an extra eye on safety in cooking or travel, schedule in extra time, and load up the e-reader before we go.

The moon enters more steady, cozy Taurus midweek, which can help us cook good food. A new outspoken quality kicks in on Thanksgiving as the sun enters Sagittarius. After a flurry of minor mishaps in the morning, we could look forward to a comfortable, if slightly delayed, holiday dinner. Conversation flows as the moon waxes full in Gemini that evening. Mercury retrograde helps us dig out old stories and come to new understandings. But it might be good to skirt around tough and tender issues until later in the weekend.

FRIDAY, NOV. 16: We’re dealt wild cards and nothing may seem to go as planned. Emotions can swirl in place. Expect delays, confirm all engagements, and don’t be surprised at strange emotional outbursts. Tonight, escape to a good movie or other relatively easy pastime.

SATURDAY, NOV. 17: Take a break, catch up, and let feelings flow. Water can be problematic, as can an emotional overload while the sensitive Pisces moon conjuncts Neptune. Schedules are only a suggestion and attentions wander, but our dreams are close by.

SUNDAY, NOV. 18: Don’t feed flare-ups. The moon enters Aries and our energy levels rev up. The mood is impatient, independent, and we hate to feel manipulated. Deadlines loom, but we’ll resist them anyway. If minor accidents accrue, slow down and prioritize.

MONDAY, NOV. 19: Competitive Mars squares Jupiter to help us make a bold move, but we have to think carefully to make sure it’s in the right direction. Defenses are up, snappy rejoinders are too easy, and fights are imminent. Put this energy to good use.

TUESDAY, NOV. 20: Make efforts to cooperate and heal recent tensions. Morning has socially awkward moments; early afternoon asks us to think fast and roll with the changes as the moon conjuncts unexpected Uranus and then settles into a more stable groove by dinnertime.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 21: As the Taurus moon trines Saturn, no one wants to be rushed. Stop and check to see that nothing has been left behind. The stars support slow and steady travel and delicious cooking. Taste often.

THURSDAY, NOV. 22: Expect this to be a sillier and informal, but potentially delicious Thanksgiving. The sun enters Sagittarius and reminds us to be grateful for what we have. Small things may snafu but we can still laugh about it. Keep the conversation flowing. We’re not quite ready to go deep, but willing to walk more broadly as the moon waxes full in Gemini tonight.
