FAULT LINES

-

As someone who has navigated Puget Sound waters for many years, I was amazed that this collision occurred. I have a Grand Banks 36, and in my many years on the water, I have never come close to what happened with these two vessels. In my opinion, Nap Tyme was completely at fault. Puget Sound is a very busy waterway with container ships, ferries, and other recreational vessels to contend with. I am always on the lookout for other vessels, and when crossing the path of a ferry or a commercial vessel, I always make sure that the crossing is at the stern of the ship.

I am normally by myself on the boat, and when I need to use the head, I ALWAYS make sure there are no other boats around to worry about. Also, the boat is always put in neutral when leaving the helm. The rules noted in your article are easy to follow if you are careful.
